Issue#1
Hey all,
👋🏻 you are reading this as I am just getting started with this newsletter. This is a weekly snippet of stuff that has been preoccupying me for the past seven days, that I’d like to share with you guys. This can be books, topics, podcasts - anything of what I’m pondering and exploring.
💡 Reading “Make time” by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky I started implementing the concept of a “daily highlight” into my week. A daily highlight is meant to fill the void between long-term goals and daily -tasks.
Long-term goals are great for orienting you in the right direction but make it hard to enjoy the time spent along the way. And tasks are necessary to get things done, but without a meaningful sized unit of belonging, they often fly by and we don’t often realize their impact.
The missing piece connects far goals with little machine daily tasks.
Here is how it works:
When someone asks you “What was your highlight (#Zuckerstück) of the day?" what do you want your answer to be?
When look back on your day, what activity, accomplishment or moment do you want to savour? That’s your highlight.
A highlight is someting you decide to make time for. Needless to say, the highlight is not the only thing you do in your day. But the mere act of choosing a highlight as a single activity to prioritize and protect in your calendar gives you a chance to embrace being proactive about how you spend your time instead of letting technology, other people or random stuff choose your agenda for you.
Setting a daily highlight is focusing on one meaningful thing even if that means you don’t cross everything on your to-do list.
Here are some of my Highlights from the past week:
💼 Finalize Ticket: Rendering data from the backend to the frontend
✅Create a Checklist for Coding workflow and feedback
🖼️ fetch Google images with next.js frontend for a class project
🗓️ create a study schedule for the upcoming LSP exam
📞 block time to call an old friend
📝 write a newsletter. [1]
Some of my favourites of the week:
😄 Fun fact: There is a direct neuronal connection from your platter to your brain stem areas that increase alertness. Therefore it can be agitating when you have to go to the bathroom. Maybe this little tip can help you funnelling your attention to your daily highlight.

Wish you an awesome week.
All the best,
Florian
